RE: riding in the camper

Ok did you guys know that more kids of high school age died last year in car accidents then our soldiers in irag. with that said you can not live life in fear. there is nothing wrong with being in the back of a TC. Im sorry but some of us do not agree with the others. TC's get a bad rap as it is. (this campground or that other campground will not let TC's in.) Being in the back of a TC is just as safe as being on a motorcycle, or a bike. or a, oh my we could go on forever. If you dont like it dont do it. To each his own. I will not try and talk you into riding in the back of a TC, and you dont try to talk me out of it. It's legal in my state so all is good. happy camping woohoo.

RE: riding in the camper

This reminds me of my father in law, who told be to buckle up before he would go to store. Well long story short i will not ride in his vehicle. I'm not a kid and in the state of Missouri if you are a passanger and an adult you get the ticket. So I will not be told i have to put a seatbelt on. I dont like them. I do make my kid wear one tho. He is a child and will have to keep one on untill he is out of my house. that is my rule. woohoo happy camping.

RE: TC and Campfires?

must have a fire to be called camping. I'm an old boyscout. who is still a scout. at every camp out the boys have fires. at every deercamp we have fire. at every family camp we have a fire or my wife gets very angry, she loves the fire. I tried not to have a fire last year and my wife still complains to me about those campouts. lol.

RE: riding in the camper

I love riding in the back of my truck when my wife is driving, reminds me of when I was a kid. will I let my kid also? yes only if we are not getting on a main road. like when we are at the park or something. I don't have my truck camper any more, but im in the process of making one for my 5.5 foot bed truck. And yes I will ride in the back. I love to sleep in the back of my camper when the wife is driving. I'm sorry but I ride a Harley eglide, and ive been hit twice by cars one time was very bad. tore me up for a bit. I keep riding and will never stop. Many things we do in life are dangerous and im not going to stop just because I can get hurt. The question is would I be in the back if my best friend was driving. NONONONO. he is a nut and I don't trust him. I do trust my wife. the other people on the road are the ones I worry about. but I cant let them rule my life. This is how I think and you should do what you think is best. we see that most don't agree with me. so each person must make their own decision. happy camping.

RE: Serious firearm question - please don't hijack thread.

Hey my post is gone. I had a good point there. what is going on. Im not allowed to ask about going around Canada on a ferry. If your in USA there are states that dont allow handguns. I go around those states also. Moderator, this is a valid question and statment. no one is bashing Canada about there laws just asking how to go to Alaska with a handgun.

RE: Feedback on Bigfoot and (ug!) Hensley hitch

Very true they lost my sale. I have never heard any one who could not hook up there DC. Many need help adjusting it, but that is normal. I even had to get on this forum and find out why my friction hitch did not work, this is the place i was told to go and get the DC for my truck. As I said before you guys rock. I help when ever I can, but most of the time someone else gets to it before me. Thanks.

RE: just ordered the cabelas alaknak tent

I would say very good. I have been camping forever. Most of the time it is with the boyscouts, but wife and i when we were younger would go all over us and camp in tent. I would say this is one of the strongest tents i have been in. My extreme Marmot tent is a 4 season tent and it cost me more then my new Alaknak tent and i would say the alaknak would hold its own against the Marmot.

RE: just ordered the cabelas alaknak tent

well deer camp went great. the day i got the tent i brought it into the back yard and put it up so that i would have no suprise at camp. No big deal you stake the four corners and put the long middle pole in. then you put the rest of the poles in and stake down. very easy set up. I did the exact same thing at deer camp except every one was watching me. no one had seen a tent like this. they are used to me bringing my rv. so i got the tent up and i had 8 guys standing in the tent. and they all thought it was the nicest tent they had ever seen. because i had talked my wife in coming down for camp this year for her fist deer camp i knew it had to be nice or she would never come again. well with two big cots and one queen size mattress down we still had room to walk and stand because of the tall roof line. she was very impressed with the tent and she even told me she will go tent camping again. it was kind of fun and it seems that in the tent we spent more time around the camp fire and not in he RV. we do need a few more items to make it like a home but i must tell every one if you are thinking about getting a tent for a family this could be one of the nicest tent made. This is from a life long boyscout. good camping all

RE: Looking for a tent that does not exist (maybe)

I was looking for the same thing for dear camp. well i spent alot more than i wanted to at cabalas. I bought the 12x12 alaknak. wow it was a great tent. It does not have a rain fly and it does not need it. the material is made very good and strong. It closes up so that you can stay warm. the only draw back is the price. I do really thing this tent would work for you. Also nice is that you can put it up alone very easy. good luck.

RE: Why don't canvas wall tents have floors?

ya well to tell you about UFO's, if you look up and don't know what it is, it's a UFO. Unidentified flying object. so if you don't know what it is, you know what it is. Sorry i'm in a joking mood. The real reason most canvas tents don't have floors is that they are high traffic tents. so a floor would wear out very much faster than the upper part. so for the cost factor of having to keep putting repairs in the floor, they dont add one.

just ordered the cabelas alaknak tent

Hello all, I've been with forum for a bit, and wife and I have decided to use a tent for deer season this year. I'm very tired of trying to fit my 27 foot TT where we go hunting. So I ordered the 12x12 cabelas alaknak tent. I'm kind of excited about tenting again. With a camper I spend to much time in the camper and will be looking forward to spending time tenting again. I have tried to do my research on the alaknak tent and it seems to be a good tent. Ill tell every one how it is after I get and try it out. There will only be wife, son, and myself in tent so I hope this will be ok. Talk to ya later.
